Hi there Lin and Bodzy
I have met a few famous people - I think the first person I nearly met was Pat Pheonix (Elsie Tanner) My friend and I knocked on her door when she lived in Sale a bloke answered it and told us to "clear off". I then did a radio programme for Radio Manchester I think it was or Piccadilly. There were a team of us and we interviwed Stephen Holdford who was like Billy Graham and a few other people but the one who sticks out was Gary Glitter. We interviewed him on the radio then went to see one of his shows. I was amused when we interviewed him as his "Solicitor" was there and he looked like he had done 12 rounds with Mohammed Ali......The producer of the show was Andy Peebles who was a lovely man. A few years later I met the Kinks at a gig at Manchester Polytechnic, Students Union and was very star struck. Many years later as a family we did a "Green" programme for the telly in Birmingham and again our presenter was a quite well know lady who read the news but nelieve it or not I have forgotten her name !!!! Theres age for yer !!!

When I was in the children's home at Patricroft the Busby Babes used to come and see us every Christmas and dish out half crowns amongst the kids until that fateful crash. Because there was that personal touch through the Christmas visits I can tell you that we were in mourning for the deceased for a long time and Mass was said for the deceased and the survivors for many weeks afterwards. 40 odd years later I still recall that now and again. The people I worked for as a 16 year old were Theatre Prop and Stage Suppliers. Patricia Phoenix bought several Items of household furniture from us and I went to her house to deliver a few times. Once when she was in the shop I cut myself rather badly and she took me to Nell Lane Hosp in her taxi, because I wasn't old enough to sign for an anaesthetic she did and stayed with me whilst they stitched me up, ever since then I referred to her as Aunty Pat. Lovely lady and much under rated actress.

I'm sure you do recall it Tony, it was a very sad day when the plane crash happened, and they've never been forgotten. Pat Phoenix was a lovely lady, and a good actress, and what a lovely story Tony, I can just imagine her doing that that for you. Lin

Hi Johnny...another one who has met several famous people...I agree with you that some of these people though are really not nice at all when you get to meet them, a lot of them think because they're famous the world owes them something, always demanding this and that...funny really because there are the others who are so down to earth and don't think they're a cut above anyone....funny old world! Its nice to hear of the famous people you have all met. It also jogs my memory (yes Lin I think it is an "age think"), when I met Bobby Charlton. My ex-husabd was involved with Manchester Polytechnic Students Union and is an avid United fan. Bobby Charlton was involved in some fundraising for them and we went into the bar one evening, where Bobby said to my ex (who wasn't my ex then) " what you want Al" - he was just on cloud nine for years because Bobby bought him a pint..... He then got an invitation to a posh dinner ( I still have the invite) with so many football names on it entitled An Evening with the Living Legends with special guest Sir Stanley Matthews. So many top names he was on cloud 109 for ever.

Hi Lin, I once worked as PA in Claridge House in Mayfair and above our office David Frost had his production company, Paradine Productions, and above that was a private pre-natal clinic. One lunctime I caught the lift to find DF standing at the back with his large cigar and reading the Times, taking up most of the room in the small lift. Several very pregnant ladies joined us in the lift, but DF neither put out his cigar nor put down his paper. Just as the lift door was about to close, DF shouted to his chauffeur to wait there for him. He did this just to let us know how important he(thought he)was because his chauffeur always waited for him. Most of the ladies were choking on his smoke and from there on I never watched anything he produced or appeared in. PRAT.

Hi Lin, I once met Frank Sinatra in Annabells in London. I was with a group of Americans, one of whom was FS's paediatrician. After we'd finished dancing the doctor went over to say 'HI' to Frank and introduced me. He was very red and bloated and looked very unhappy. He was with the Annenberg's who was the USA Ambassador in London and I think he was here to do a concert at the Talk of the Town. The Talk of the Town was one of the best places to go to see people in concert and I saw many famous acts including : Stevie Wonder, Sammy Davis Junior, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Tony Bennett plus many more. My favourite place was sitting upstairs looking down on the stage which came out into the middle of the room, rather like a catwalk. It was a favourite place to be wined and dined and it was very romantic......
