ahhh Brewster St... so named 'cos there was a Brewery a'joining.. true!! After 'leaving' home.... ?. I had a one bedroomed flat in Hope Road off Hilton Lane Prestwich.. I was single and you only needed one bedroom then. Though there were two single beds in there - pushed together you could have some great fun ;D Well appointed 4x4 kitchen ;D... living/dining room. Private parking (ie 'off the road').. all for £10 per week - which was a fair wack back in 1972/3.

My first flat was at the top of Southall street cheetham.Next to Strangeways and a Dairy. They were old flats and rent was 19shillings.Poxy bedsit at time was 5£.It had 3 large rooms.Cold tap and outside toilet. The good bit was that there was a real mix of people.Several italian families.Umberto off radio lived there. As it was a teenage marriage it didnt last long.It was heaven when I left and went back to the comfort of home in Withington. This didnt last though.Id tasted freedom and soon got a council house on Langley estate.A prowler tried to get in first night there!Certainly toughened up from the mard arse I was there.Stayed 13 yrs.

Hi,
The Berkshire (Victoria Avenue) about 300 mts east of Rochdale Road. The Gardeners Arm is on Moston Lane/ Victoria Avenue junction (large roundabout). The pub on Moss Hall Road was indeed the The Clough Hotel (now pulled down).

My mam and aunt Sal were barmaids at the Clogh for many years. They didnt start work there until they were in their 60'sand were the most unlikely people you'd expect to take the job. They loved it and both worked in the vault usually for many years. They always had stories to tell about the 'lads'in the vault many they knew from childhood in Collyhurst. My cousins Scullions lived in the area so I have many happy mmemories o f The Clough pub.
