I watched the movie hobsons choice, there was a park where he took his fiance , it was in eccles or weaste. The last time I was back in England I found the park but it was nothing like the tired gardens in the movie, is that just the movie or did I have the wrong park.?
The park I found ( forget the name now) was located near the old tram terminus building , it looked like a real neat OLD building.
Anyone got any clues?

I haven't seen the film Hobsons choice for years, so I can't recall the park. From memory the film was set in an area of Salford called Hanky park.
There are a couple of parks in that area that spring to mind. However if you you can go onto Youtube, there are a number of clips from the film. One of them is the "Park scene" I am 99% certain having been in the park on a few occasions, that it is Peel Park which is located on Salford crescent next to Salford university.
If you look at the clip you will see that it is down in a valley. In Peel park there is a monument in the valley which marks the high water level caused when the park was frequently flooded by the river Irwell which flows right next to the park. The high mark on the monument is about 15/20 feet above ground level. You can also still buy the film on Amazon fairly cheaply.
I suspect that you may have had the right park but the wrong entrance. if you enter the park from Salford Crescent, it goes down into the valley, follows the river Irwell, and there is an entrance/exit on Frederick road, directly opposite where the old tram terminus used to be.
I have just entered Peel Park Salford into Google earth, and if you compare the circular flower island arrangement in the park, with the circular flower island arrangement in the film clip, you can see that they are almost identical given the passage of time.

You got it right , I entered 'salford crescent' into google earth and it took me to the U turn in the river next to the park. I think thats exactly where I was a few yrs ago but didn't see the gardens.
All the segments to hobsons choice are on youtube, its in 10 minute segments but I just add them to the video queu and they run automatically after each other.

Visited there many years ago with my family but cannot recollect the name. I have recently read a book about Salford in the days of the slump & it mentions Hanky Park in it? Hope this helps?

Hanky park was an area of Salford located where Salford shopping precinct is today. Probably most famous for the film, Love on the dole, which was based on a novel by Walter Greenwood. There is another park near by that goes by the strange name of Chimney Pot Park

In the movie I believe it was called Peel park. It's still called Peel Park to this day. If anybody ever decides to look up the park, it's directly in front of Salford museum. Inside the museum there is a mock up cobbled street called Larkhill place, which contains houses, shops, and a pub, depicting the Salford of yesteryear.
