Hi Mancnozzer, Welcome to the Message Board on Manmates. If you have time to search through all the Threads, you can see we have all discussed Barmouth Street Baths in detail......from the Victorian tiling, the smell, the cubicles, the green canvas curtains, oxo and crackers etc. I used to live in Clayton and it wasnt unusual to walk the distance from Clayton to Beswick for a swim. We didnt have any sports bags then.....it was a towel and swimming costume tucked under your arm and the entrance fee (cant remember how much it was). I used to swim there every school holiday and sometimes on a Saturday morning. I certainly got my money's-worth because my fingers were always white and wrinkled when I got dressed and I smelled of Chlorine for days afterwards.

Hi mancnozzer, i used to go to bradford memorial school and we used to go to barmouth st for our swimming lessons. I also lived in blackrock st, so like lisa,me and all my mates used to go sat mornings and be in ther till we started to wrinkle and shiver, then it was quick change and straight to vending machine for oxo or hot chocolate or weak soup. I remember madges ice cream shop as i used to clean the yard round the corner where they made the ice cream, and parked the ice cream van. When i'd finished i got 2 shillings and a 99 wafer or hot vimto dependent on what the weather was like. Good days.
