BERNARDHOOD QUOTE/
THE OLD AGE PENSION STARTED IN 1902 AND WAS 5.0 SHILLINGS A WEEK. NOT A LOT YOU MAY THINK AND YOU MAY ALSO THINK THAT WE (PENSIONERS) ARE MUCH BETTER OF TODAY -NOT SO, IN TO DAY'S MONEY THAT 5.0 SHILLINGS WOULD BE ABOUT £160. WE DO NOT GET ANYWHERE NEAR THAT FOR OUR PENSION - SO AS USUAL (OVER THE YEARS) WE HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF BY ALL POLITICAL PARTIES. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT NOWADAYS - IF YOU ARE REALLY STUCK - YOU CAN POSSIBLY GET SOME EXTRA HELP. ANY OF US PENSIONERS ANY THOUGHT'S ON THIS ONE?

Hi Olly, Your point on what the average wage was in 1902 ish. might just show how nearer the average wage the first pension was at that time - we are the lowest in Europe - with some Countries pension a good % of the average wage

Another point on pensions is that HOW MANY people in 1902 LIVED to draw it (THEIR PENSION) As not many people lived to draw their pension at that time the Government paid more to the 3 (THREE) people who managed to live beyond the age of 65 * BIT SARCASTIC THAT *

In UK petrol 10 years ago 75 pence a litre today? ?

Hi June( and the good advice from OLLY.) The deferred pension is a very tricky one and a LOT of factors come into play on it. It's really all about when you catch up in pension payments over what you have deferred and - IMPORTANTLY - how soon you get ahead and start to gain because it does or can take quite a long time (years even - it all depends - and that's the quandary) to catch up. So if unfortunately anything happens to you 'THEY' have gained or if you live to be 150 years old you have gained. Unless you are very well 'OFF' it's not a game you want to play So listen to OLLY the 'SAGE' of MM. Money in your pocket is worth more than in someone else's
