Hi Marie, Your daughter was in South London wasnt she? My daughter lives in Hampstead and often goes walking on Hampstead Heath. Strangely, she lives in the next road that I used to live in in the 1960's and 70's, then I lived abroad for a while (Paris and Teheran) before settling in Muswell Hill. I suppose when one lives in London one gets used to seeing celebrities. Maureen Lipman lived in my road in Muswell Hill and it wasnt unusual to see her outside the school gates or even queueing up at the Bank and Londoners do get blaze about such things, as I suppose I did when I lived there. Its still my favourite place and I long to return one day to live. My daughter said when she makes enough money she's going to buy our old house in Muswell Hill for me. I told her 'You're going to need a lot of money' as houses now fetch over £1m for a four-bedroomed house, easily. Isnt it ridiculous?

Seriously though, I used to also like watching the old Black & White horror movies, Frankenstein, The Beast with Five Fingers etc! Do you remember Vincent Price, Bela Lugosi. On the subject of movies but not necessarily SUNDAY afternoon ones - I was up late watching a selection of scary movies last night with my son and we got round to talking about the SCARIEST movies we'd ever seen - he said SAW and SAW 2 (for those who haven't yet seen them they are macabre (I've seen both!)) but I thought the scariest ones I'd seen (when I was younger of course) was Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Triffids and Carrie! At the cinema, when we were watching Carrie, we stood up to leave, thinking the film had ended when suddenly another bit of footage (won't say what it is here in case some of you out there haven't see it yet) made everyone in the cinema jump. The Omen series of films used to scare me too! So - go on - what makes your hair stand on end?

Just noticed that they're showing "The Italian Job" on t.v. tonight (the new version). Don't know whether to watch it or not as I really liked the "original" one with Michael Cain in it. Has anyone out there watched this new version and, if so, is it as good or even better than the original???

Just watched a real weepy: MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION with Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. Also watched BRIEF ENCOUNTER yesterday, must have seen it loads if times but it takes me back to the time when courtesy, good manners, loyalty and fidelity stood for something in this crazy world of ours. Now, when you turn the tv on its: sex, violence, swearing, infidelity, nudity, disrespect and ignorance. I think I'd rather watch the birds in my garden...........

Hi Frank, Goodbye Mr. Chips was a wonderful film with the lovely Robert Donat. What was it about the old films? They were so 'gentle' (for want of a better word). I hate the American films : cant understand what they are saying, too much unnecessarry violence (but isnt that America?) too much sex(a necessity for bad films !!). There's something magical in watching an old black and white film with REAL actors....... Hi Lisa could'nt a gree more, we really dont need the language or the sex scenes , i'm no prude, but just let us use our imagination.Bodzy obviously does .Idont know about over there but here when they are reading the news they have to show you a picture, say a story on health issues they display a,stethascope it drives me mad, but i digress, my favourite film of all time is goodbye Mr Chips.regards, Frank Walsh. Hi all. I used to love to watch the old black and white movies on tv on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Humphry Bogart (Casablanca) and James Cagney, Bette Davies, Joan Crawford. Newer films Cary Grant (he improved with age definitely) big Frank Sinatra fan did you see From here to Eternity. Thought that was a great film. Also Man with Golden Arm. Love is a many splendored thing, with William Holden and Jennifer Jones. And last but not least the Carry on Films.

What about the Charlton Heston films, Ben Hur etc... Also Kirk Douglas in the Vikings with Tony Curtis. Very watchable. Not forgetting the Doris Day films. Very lighthearted. She never had a hair out of place did she?. I can even (just) remember the "Old Mother Riley" films. They would be corny now but at the time funny. My dad loved the three stooges. When I was a child they frightened me for some reason, so I never took to them. Preferred Stan and Ollie instead.

Hi All,
A really good film to watch is "The Worlds Fastest Indian" It's a really entertaining story about Bert Munro's attempt at a world land speed record on a 1912 Indian Scout motorcycle, it's a true story and Bert achieved his record in the 1950's/60's over several visits to the Bonneville Salt Flats in America, the film kinda lumps it all together and makes it one attempt.
A brilliant film.

Hi Lin, Not sure exactly when the film was made but there is another DVD given away as a freebie called "The Making of The Worlds Fastest Indian" It's in four sections 1 trailers from the film 2 Interviews with Bert Munro himself 3 Interviews with the stars 4 I think was about how the film was made and why. I think the film has only been released in the last year as I have been looking for it for about six months. Blockbusters have it and also our local Library.

Hi Lin,
I'm not sure what the arrangement is for "The Worlds Fastest Indian" as far as general release goes, it is a difficult film to track down. It's taken me six months to find it. However I will find my copy of the making of and get some more information for you, Sir Anthony Hopkins plays the star role of Bert Munro and he plays it very well but I can't remember who made the film off hand but start with your local library, meantime I will find out what I can.

hi all What about the Vincent Price films (horror of course). I remember seing him in a film where he was getting his revenge on different people and Robert Morley had to eat his pet poodles in for a meal. I am not a lover of horror films but sometimes I went not knowing they were horror films until I had seen them. I remember "The Pit and the Pendulam" (think that is how you spell it) and all I remember is the half moon saw swinging from side to side. Vincent Price's voice used to send shivers up my spine for some reason. Frances

Hi Lin I am not a fan of horror films, I dare not watch them before going to bed as my brain won't switch off and I lie awake all night. My daughter loves them. I love a good murder mystery though. I also love historical films like Rebecca, Jane Eyre etc. Was a fan of Robert Mitchum also and Tony Curtis in his youth. The old films had something about them. (Watched Casablanca again whilst in Manchester) Love that film. Frances
