Hi Does anyone remember the laundry on Heywood st in the early 70's? Aparently this was my first home as when i was born the family lived there as my mom was running/working there? I wonder if its still there? I doubt it lol. It was 40 yrs ago arghhh!! I wonder if there are any pictures available from that time. I remember I went to Marlbrough rd school up until 1976? We moved away then...all the way to Whalley Range ha!

Hi Homesick, I dont remember the laundry but I remember Heywood Street. I used to work on Cheetham Hill Road on the corner of Derby Street for a rainwear manufacturer from 1961 to 1964 as a secretary. I often went to the Ice Palace. I always walked to work down Cheetham Hill Road once I'd got off the 53 bus passing the many shops and factories. I used to pop into Sieffs Bakery near work for one of their delicious cheese cakes. Years later I returned to the area to go on the Jewish Museum Tour of the area and it was an eye-opener. Such a pity that most of the factories and shops have now gone as it used to be a bustling area full of life and it got me interested in the Jewish culture.

Hi Homesick, If you log into www.images.manchester.gov.uk and type in the name of the street you are looking for something will come up. There are hundreds of street/area photos on there so you may be on there for some time.
