hi all....i left clayton in 1985 and moved to droylsden,i used to live on pioneer street. There was a corner shop on sheldon street run by a really nice northern irish bloke called george,my mum used to send me there for his cooked meats and to get other bits of shopping. He was a big city fan and we were allways talking about the footy me being a blue as well.I passed through clayton and specifcally pioneer street a few years ago and noticed that the shop had gone...just wonder if anyone knows what happened to george?...he used to have problems with some of the youths disrespecting his shop...maybe he just had enough and called it a day...Also remember berry's on tartan street run by rose and charlie...there used to be a woman serving at the till called emily...i went to ravy and had some great times there..the head at the time was mr smith...great site this love reading the stuff about clayton between 1977 and 1985...take care dave

HI folks..I lived across from the New Royal cinema in early 50's...the old lady next door ran a clothing club from Clewlows.....I had a Canadian customer in Vancouver by the name of Clewlow.....I said it was an unusual name and asked him where his ancestors came from and he said Manchester................

Do you remember the Pork pie shop on Ashton New Road, near the UCP shop? It was on the opposite side to the Royal and near Grey Mare Lane? I used to visit the shop every Saturday with my mum and she would buy their pork pies, which were the best I've ever tasted. We often used to wait for the pies to come out of the oven, then wait again for the liquor to be poured into the hole at the top. We had them for tea later on and, by then, the liquor had turned to jelly. I still think of those pies whenever I buy one.......nothing can match the taste of those pork pies. Nobody on Manmates seems to remember the shop.

The good old back entry, the things that went in them, so I have been told anyway.
