Hi again, Does anyone have any information on what the barracks on Mossley Rd were like around 1900? Any description of the area would be good. Jude

I would like to know if the inn across the road from barracks was ever visited by the "Heroes of Waterloo" or is it a modern building? Noticed it driving past on the main road many years ago.

That's a great link Olly, I'm doing some family research which includes The Manchester Regiment of The Lancashire Fusiliers amongst other things.

Hi Tony, My brother Dennis was in the Lancashire Fusiliers and I used to watch him spellbound as he cleaned his kit and made sure his yellow plume was perfect. My mum did everything for him until he went into the Army.....it certainly taught him to take care of himself. He used to polish his boots until you could see your face in them and the crease down his trousers was razor-sharp.
