The only sports we were interested in in West Groton in the late 50's/early 60's were football and cyle sppedway. We had organised teams and race d at various tracks. Our home track was, I think, at Melland Playing Fields (not sure about the spelling). Openshaw had a very good team. Anyone got any memories ?

I rode for LONGSIGHT LIONS and remember our Manager was a guy called Mike Wansborough who was the a real University type and least likely Cycle Speedway person. Seem to remember riding in the British Champoinship at Hungerford in early 60's
Does anyone remember Carrs Wood track owned by Brian Moston who was a "pusher" ( speedway bike that is) at Hyde Road with the Aces- John Doyle

The only sppedway I remember was at Hyde Road, but I would like to ask if any old dirt track fans remember Donald Riley, better known as Risket Riley. He started at White City in 1927, but did most of his riding at the old Snipe Track in Audenshaw. Anything will be appreciated.

re cycle speedway i rode for gorton diamonds ithink i had a trial and started riding the same night ! we moved from near mellands playing fields ( iwent to spurley hey ) to debdale park , where with the assistance of the parks dept we made new track ! man in charge at of us , or so he thought was called keith wingrove winny to us we usd to cycle all over manchester to and from league matches , carswood , offerton denton and blackley .i moved from manchester in 1972 to norfolk, and continued my cycle speedway career until i about 1983, but the old days at mellands and debdale park were the best
