Hi there,
I have recently started looking up my roots in Weaste, Salford. I found out that my street, Ariel Street, was bulldozed. Now when checking I find that the park I used to go to as a 5 year old boy ALSO has changed. Buile Hill Park! I loved the Museum there but it seems it has closed down and been empty for years. What's going on? There was a big meteorite in the entrance.. I bet that has gone too! Everything seems to have gone. There are no land marks I can make out now. Sorry for going on a bit, it now seems that ALL of my roots have gone.
Never mind.
Best Regards
Alan

HI ALAN...I AM SIMILAR TO YOU IN THE FACT THAT WE MOVED TO DEVON WHEN I WAS 7 AND THEN TO CORNWALL WHEN I WAS 17...SINCE GOING BACK TO M/C WE HAVE NOTICED THE CHANGES... IT HAS CHANGED A LOT, SOME PLACES I USED TO KNOW I DON'T RECOGNISE, BUT OCCASIONALLY WE DO SEE SOMETHNG WE RECOGNISE BUT ITS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO WORK OUT WHERE OTHER THINGS WERE THAT WERE AROUND IT BEFORE THE CHANGES. THERE ARE SOME PLACES THAT HAVE NOT CHANGD THOUGH..WE ARE GOING TO /MC IN OCTOBER FOR OVER A WEEK SO WE HOPE TO DO SOME MORE SEARCH AROUND FOR OLD HAUNTS.

Hi Alan, Parts of Salford and Manchester have totally changed BUT occasionally you can see some of the old gems shining through all the modern architecture.....one thing's for certain.....the original people of Manchester are still the same.

Hi Alan , Your posting made me think , and yes Salford is now unrecognisable to how it used to be. How ever there are a few bits remaining Pendleton Church , the Crescent which has a good museum, Salford Royal (apartments now , but they kept the outside) . And the statue of the soldier on a horse just facing it. The Willows is still there as well.

Hi Alan, I'm pleased that you've got a picture of the street you once lived in, a few years ago I found one of the street where I was born, in Collyhurst, it had been taken the year I was born, all the houses were demolished the year later, so I was never able to remember what it looked like. I agree MM is a great site, wishing you all the best. Cath

Hi Alan, Talking of how Salford has changed well most of the family used to live on/around West Craven Street. Anne and Family on Belfort St. What a place. In summer as kids rolling up pitch bubbles that had swelled up through the cobbles and throwing it at your unsuspecting mates. And then there were the houses. The old Two up ,two down. You used to walk straight into the "Best Room" in which was usually burning a incredible coal fire. On the left wall (in our house) there used to be the statuary sideboard (from Redferns) on which were placed all the "Club Books" in aline on top of which was placed the coppers for the Insurances, Clothes Clubs, St Joseph's Weekly Football Cards etc and the amazing thing was (It wasn't amazing in those days) no one ever locked the front door and not a thing was ever thieved. Mind you no of us ever had owt! Couldn't do that now. It has certainly changed as you knew it Alan. For the worst I'm afraid. But as LIsa has stated "The people haven't Thank God!".
