I was thinking about Mentors and people who influenced you in your former years. Let's have your contributions. We are all influenced in our younger years by either teachers, parents, siblings or others. Who immediately springs to mind that changed the course of your life? Who believed in you? Who inspired you onto greater things..........

HI LISA....CAN'T SAY MY COURSE OF LIFE CHANGED AS SUCH, BUT MY DAD TAUGHT ME A LOT OF THINGS IN LIFE, WHICH BASICALLY MEANT THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS YOU CAN'T...HE TAUGHT ME TO DO JOBS MEN WOULD DO, SO BASICALLY I CAN BE PRETTY INDEPENDANT, AND DON'T NEED TO ASK SOMEONE TO FIX THINGS..I CAN BRICK LAY, PLASTER, RENDER, DO ELECTRICS ETC ETC...I CAN SAY I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS GETTING WORK AS I CAN TURN MY HAND TO ANYTHING, SO I'VE BEEN VERY LUCKY THAT I HAVE GOT EVERY JOB THAT I'VE EVER APPLIED FOR, ADMITTED I HAVE WAFFLED MY WAY THROUGH MANY OF THEM BUT I FIND WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW YOU PICK UP AS YOU GO ALONG. CAN'T THINK CLEARLY AT THE MOMENT AS YOU KNOW I'M NOT FEELING TO GOOD, SO I'M GETTING OFF HERE AND GOING TO LAY DOWN AND WATCH A BIT OF TV. LIN

Hi Lin, Thanks for the contribution. Its nice to know that women can do things that are thought of as 'men's work' and that it was a man who taught you the importance of being independent and self-sufficient. Have a good rest Lin. Hope you are feeling better.

Oh Lyn! an' you said you didn't need men.
Someone who influenced my life was a man called Colin Hector who worked at Broom House when I was there. He was the epitome of an English Gentleman in a very genuine way. It was down to Colin that I lost most of my Mancunian accent, not for the sake of losing the accent but striving to speak clearly. At the time I didn't realise I was losing my accent, it wasn't until I moved to Stockport that I realised most of it had gone.
