I started at BP in 1964, me and another lad went for a job on spec and I got a start because my brother worked in the boiler shop. I was placed into the Time office at number 9 gate, then into the labour office as an office boy for 6 months. Then into the fabrication shop until I was made redundant in 1966, on Ernie Delves gang. To be honest the place was in it's last dying years, but I met some good people, and a few characters who were really funny. I was an apprentice fitter and I went on to Vaughan Crane on Gorton Road, I left engineering in 1968.
