Hi all...come on, we have all these threads on here, where are you all? This is about regrets in life, and one of mine is, (apart from getting married...lol! just joking guys...) I'm afraid to say again without wanting to bore you all to tears, is that we were never taught anything in school about Egypt or Archeology. If only I had the chances I would have gone on as far as I possibly could and become an Egyptologist living in Egypt...I have lots of Egyptology friends over in Egypt, who are tour guides, and I would have loved to have done that job. Of course it's a bit late in life to start to do a university degree on this subject as there is so much of it, and you have to re-sit it again every four years... I have done a course in Egyptology which was brilliant...but oh to have been able to do the big one... So come on you quiet lot, lets hear what your regrets are...hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? Lin

I suddenly realised one of my regrets today! During late 1998 and early 1999 I was one of the campaigners acting to get more classrooms for our Primary School. Our children were being taught in cramped conditions while some classrooms had been "rented out". We threw everything we could at the injustice of it and after months of petitions, newspaper and radio interviews we finally got our classrooms back! Early 1999 I was contacted by BBC Radio York and a young lady there explained that she'd been impressed by a radio interview I'd done. She went on to ask if I would attend a live debate at BBC Radio in London, all expenses paid. I jumped at the chance. I travelled there and back by train and taxi and was greeted by some really nice BBC staff. The whole day was incredible - it was during May and we were having a mini heatwave. I sat in a room with other members of the public and we were given our "brief". We had to read through five or six imaginary court cases. We then had to discuss with each other what sentences we would pass and why. It was one of the best days of my life. One "case" we were given was a youth on a bus who had been egged on by his mates and became a thug. His life had looked promising up to the point where he'd beaten up the bus driver. Now his life could be ruined by being imprisoned. He was full of remorse etc. Another "case" was of a woman who suffered with arthritis and who'd grown some cannabis for her own use but, as it was illegal and it was her fifth offence, she faced imprisonment or another hefty fine. We all agreed on THAT particular outcome - another hefty fine!! The cases were all so different and we could have chatted for hours over each one. We were allotted a certain time limit for each one though (probably just as well). All the while we were in discussion our words were being recorded ready to go out on air on BBC Radio 4. Okay so it wouldn't make me famous!! You're all out there wondering what my regret is...? A few days later I was approached by BBC Radio York and asked if I would consider taking part in frequent group discussions for their radio programmes, on a regular basis. All expenses incurred would be reimbursed. Just before I received this "offer" I had attended an interview with a firm of Architects for the position as a part-time typist. I was offered the job the day after the radio offer. I weighed up regular earnings against a non-earning "job" and the regular earnings won! My regret then?? I only stayed in the Architects job for under two months - it turned out to be the worst job I had ever done!! I suffered a huge dent in my confidence as a result and it took me around 18 months to recover. So, one of my regrets is that I didn't take the BBC Radio offer in the first place (could have saved myself almost two years of heartache)...!
