What's everybody's opinion of the United game in Europe against Roma the other night. The police reaction seemed to me to be heavy-handed to say the least plus the result definitely wasn't what we wanted.
What's your opinion on the actions of the police?
What do you think are United's chances in the return leg at Old Trafford?

lol I have confidence in them. Let's hope UEFA dish out some kind of warning to Roma for the actions of their national police force.

Hi Kent/Karl, Not being an expert at football, unlike you avid fans, I watched the fighting with disbelief. Surely if you see trouble flaring, you do your best to get out of the way, not antagonise the Police or opposing fans. From a purely observer's point of view, there are lots of so-called 'fans' who call themselves supporters but go to the match merely to cause trouble which spoils it for the rest of the genuine fans. Football is meant to be a sport NOT gladiatorial free-for-all. Also watching the police lay into innocent people is not a nice thing to witness whether its on the tv or in person. I expect some of the children in that crowd will be traumatised by what they saw. Doesnt give a very good impression to vulnerable youngsters on how to behave, does it? [end quote] From what I saw the fans didn't have any chance to get out of the way as the police waded straight in with the batons. Any fans that did respond seemed to me to be defending themselves from an over-zealous police force. If you want kids to behave and obey authority that will not do it as that will teach them to be rebellious if the police take advantage of their position as they did in Italy and Spain with the Tottenham game.

I AGREE KENT...ALTHOUGH IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT, AT LEAST OUR POLICE MANAGED TO CONTROL THINGS WITHOUT USING THEIR BATONS TO THE EXTENT THEY DID IN ROMA. I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD HAVE RETALIATED, THE BEST REVENGE WAS BEATING THE C.R.A.P OUT OF THEM BY WINNING THE GAME AS WE DID...NO NEED FOR VIOLENCE. LIN

Hi Lin, Just shows what a brilliant Police force we have in this country and so patient. I dont know if I would have been able to keep that calm with bottles thrown over my head. Why were some of the United supporters goading the Italians on, and vice versa? The best way to deal with them would have been to walk away and, as Lin said, beat them......which we did WELL AND TRULY. ;D I AGREE KENT...ALTHOUGH IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT, AT LEAST OUR POLICE MANAGED TO CONTROL THINGS WITHOUT USING THEIR BATONS TO THE EXTENT THEY DID IN ROMA. HI LISA, FROM WHAT I HEARD ON THE NEWS TODAY, WAS THAT THEY WERE GOADING EACH OTHER. THEY KEEP GOING ON ABOUT THESE MEN IN BLACK, WHO I PERSONALLY THINK WERE THERE FOR THAT REASON TO STIR UP TROUBLE, BUT THE MAIN THING REASON THAT IT GOT WORSE WAS THE POLICE ARRESTING A COUPLE OF THE OPPOSITION WHICH THEY OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T LIKE...I DID HEAR THAT THEY WERE THROWING MISSILES FIRST AGAIN, AND THINGS JUST ESCALATED. At least the British police didn't resort with random violence the way the Italian police did in Rome.

Tommy , You being a good red ,should know that Manchester United never lose " we just run out of time ", Just think if that ref had given us a possible 3mins extra who knows we could have scored 2 more goals , it wouldn't have been the first time we have scored 2 goals in three mins , Anyway, Tommy "Keep spreadin the word " I remember once for a laugh, on a offical form , where it asked what RELIGION I was I put MANCHESTER UNITED HA HA

I don't know about anybody else but I have faith in United winning the FA Cup at Wembley no matter who would have won that other semi-final.

Hi Lin, I was going to put something similar on this morning but thought better of it in case some of the members are younger than us OLDIES or WRINKLIES as Babs calls us. I think it must be an age-thing that goes with aches and pain and illnesses. I certainly wake up in the morning feeling like a 90 year old, but I'd prefer a 16 a year old........
