Steve McClaren is getting a lot of flak as England manager. Apparently they were booed to a large extent at the end of the first half and even at the end some fans were booing the team. (I didn't see the game because I was working) Is the team playing that badly? How does the current squad compare to England squads of the past?

hi Kent not sure what to think of Steve mc-claren i suppose we should give him time after all it was in the 60s the last time england won anything maybe the players are to individual and not playing as a team maybe they are paid to much i know i couldn't do any better i cant see england winning anything in the next 10 years although they won today 3-0 i really liked the old English teams like Tom Finny Stanly Mathews Bobby Charlton JUST TO NAME A FEW when we used to look up to the players and they showed an example to the younger ones tommy I'm all in favour of giving him time Tommy. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like many other people are prepared to do that. My personal view is that if you can't get a country the size and standard of league that England have to the quarter-finals at least of a major international tournament you should quit.

Hi No i don't think McClaren is doing a good job, I don't think he his a bad person or a bad manager i just think he is to defensive,he doesnt give the players the freedom to do what they do at club level. JOE T

Hi there Mac's record speaks for itsself. I don't think his job is to teach the players how to play football, but to motivate a collection of top players. Look at Rooney's match, he looked half motivated to me. Perhaps there would be more motivation if Steve Gerrard was made captain. Even the return of David Beckham would give the team a boost. Dunno, what do you think?

Hi Moonshine Your dead right about Rooney, but the other players are the same,They don't shine for England like they do for there clubs What annoys me is the criticism Rooney gets,The boys only 21? and to be honest he is not an out & out striker. JOE T

The team definitely needs a boost in some way. The players you would think would be naturally be more motivated playing for their country because I'm sure most of us dreamed of scoring the winner in a World Cup Final when we were playing football as kids. Good point about Rooney being young and taking a lot of unfair stick. He still acts like a young kid when decisions don't go his way. I used to be a football referee and would never have tolerated the way Rooney speaks to referees. The FA won't appoint independently minded managers hence the reason why England haven't won anything since 1966. They should have appointed Cloughie when they had the chance.

Stevie - boy wonder - is no good as a manager- period. He was defensive minded at Middlesbrough and like wise with England. Lampard will have to be sacrificed for Gerrard, you can not have two players in the same team doing the same job. There will be no Beckham recall for sure. Hargreaves has been alotted that numbered shirt worn by him. Sadly they do miss Owen, he would be a great help for the likes of a tall player like Grouch.
