I am looking for someone who is willing to do some research for me.It would be someone who regularly goes to the library or even the archives of the Evening News. I am trying to find the death record of a gentleman who I know only as Ian. Ian was born August 17,1949 in Liverpool. Sadly, he died sometime in 1999. He is survived by his widow ( name not known) and 2 sons ( Jason and Ian). I have checked the death memoriam and birth memoriam records of the Evening News online without luck Unfortunately the online access only goes back to 2000. Ian amd I (1946) are brothers who were placed into adoption. There is a slight possibility that we are even full brothers. He was adopted by a Manchester family in 1950.In the last few years ; I have traced my birth family and have made contact with 5 siblings born to my birth mother after marrying ( twice) I would like to complete the circle by learning about Ian from those who love him. Thank you Joe addison Canada

Hi Joe, Have you tried After Adoption ? They are a charitable organisation based in Manchester (Chapel Street ) who help anyone involved in adoption either Birth parents or relatives, adoptees and adoptive parents. They have a Search Room where you can search the records for lost relatives. The only problem is that if you are in Canada they may not be able to search for you as the Local Council Authorites here in the UK have to 'buy' into their services but what they can do is give you a contact number where you could get help. You may have to pay but it wouldnt be too costly, unlike some who charge the earth. Their number is 0161 839 4930. Just give them a ring, explain your problem and see if they can give you a contact number in Canada. I do know they have contacts all over the world, so dont give up. Let me know how you get on and let's hope someone here on MM can help do the research for you.

Hi Joe, I've just had another thought (a dangerous thing !). What was your birth names? as adoptees usually have two certificates. The adoptive certificate has a large A in one corner which is given to the adoptive parents once the adoption is finalised. If you know your birth names, you can get the information you need from the ONS (Office of National Statistics)0151 471 4479. Or the Original Birth Records 0151 471 4361. OR there is a Contact Register where you can put your name saying you wish to be contacted 0151 471 4473. They will also tell you if your brother is on the register. After Adoption usually do all this for you if your LA has paid into AA but they can give you all the info you need for searching.

Hi Lisa, Thanks for your comments and tips.I actually have a counselor with After Adoption helping me.I forgot to mention that anyone who wishes to remain unknown can pass the information that they have through Dot Forster at After Adoption. I have posted on manmates because of results I have from similar efforts on a Liverpool site called scousehouse at the start of my search about 4 years ago My original application for my birth records gave me my name at birth; my birth mother's name; the address where I was born; and little else.Application for court records supplied the name of my birth father. I posted a search for him on scousehouse and received a reply from his son. After exchanging info; my birth father( still alive and in Liverpool); who admits to the possibility but refutes the fact; returned to the area I was born in and was able to locate a woman who was a young girl when I was born in her family's home. Mary had stayed in contact with my birth mother until my birth mother passed away in 1980. Armed with names that Mary supplied; I have located 5 siblings . One of them had been out of touch with her family since around the time of their Mum's death in 1980. I located her in Australia and she is now in contact with her brothers and sisters again. I am hoping that lightning can strike again by using manmates to search for information on Ian. Again Lisa, thanks for your kind reply and helpful tip. Joe

Hi Joe, Could I politely ask you put your location on so everyone knows where you are. Sometimes when we are chatting its nice to see whether they are at the other end of the world. Also there's the time difference: when we are in bed you lot are wide awake. Can you put your time on too. Just click on profile at the top of this page and 'edit'. Thanks a lot Joe. I will have another think about tracing your brother over the weekend and see if I can come up with anything.

Hi Lisa, To complete the picture; my Mom(not birth) and I emigrated to Britannia Beach about 20 miles north of Vancouver in 1952. Many of you may drive through what is left of it on the on the way to Whistler for the 2010 Winter Olympics. I lived in or around Vancouver for most of my life from the age of 15. I moved to Fort Nelson in 1984 for work. Fort Nelson is 300 miles up the world famous Alaska Highway. For the last 18 years we have lived in Dawson Creek which is the titular start of the Alaska Highway. Anyone who wishes to contact me directly can do so at the following: J.Joseph Addison 11109 13A Street Dawson Creek B.C. Canada V1G 3X6

Thanks Joe for putting your location on and for filling in your story and how you came to be in Canada. Isnt it amazing what stories people have to tell and how they've got to where they are from such different beginnings? That's why I say 'never judge' because you never know what hardships people have been through to get to where they are in life. The smiles and frowns that people wear in their every day bear no resemblence to what they may have suffered in their life. Its all part of life's rich tapestry, and every one of us is unique in that there's no-one exactly like us anywhere on earth. Aren't we amazing?

Hi Joe, You may have read on the past postings that we have another of our FRIENDS in Canada. We tease him a lot here on MM especially the females. He's so cheeky, we've all decided we're going to come over by the coachload to visit him and see the Olympics in 2010. When he comes on-line later, no doubt he'll be chatting with you and telling you what a saucy lot we are here on MM. You'd better believe him

Sonya Maddieson [sonya.maddieson@barnardos.org.uk] try this email adCHILD CARE ORGANISATIONS A
The following is a list of organisations which have been involved in the care of children. The list is not exhaustive and other organisations are listed in the "Charities Digest" (published by The Family Welfare Association) and The Social Services Year Book (published by Longman's). Both books should be available in your local Reference Library.
If the organisation you are looking for is no longer in existence or has amalgamated with another organisation the Reference Library or the Records Office of its local area may be able to help you find some information.
NB. Barnardo’s also holds the records for The Children’s Aid Society, Macpherson Homes, Marchmont Home, Liverpool Sheltering Home, Sharman’s Home, and these records are routinely researched when enquirers write to Barnardo’s After Care.
