Hi, Anyone any idea how i can find a sister that was adopted at birth in Scotland. She is now living in Manchester and has 1 son aged around 21 years old. Her birth name was Ann Dolan or Dollan (unsure of spelling)born on 2/9/55 she was brought up and lived in Kircaldy, Fife then moved to Manchester a good many years ago. This is information given to me by social services but that is as far as they would go. THE OTHER INFORMATION THEY GAVE ME IS THAT HER NAME WAS CHANGED TO LORRAINE - DO YOU KNOW A LORRAINE WHO IS SCOTTISH WITH A SON AROUND 21 yrs of age , IF SO ASK HER IF SHE WAS ADOPTED AND THEN GET IN TOUCH, THANKS.

Liliano, Have you tried contacting After Adoption? You can contact them either by phone or e-mail. 0800 0568 578 or 0161 839 4932 - information@afteradoption.org.uk. They can give you details of who to contact. You can also put your name on the Contact Register at the ONS in Southport(After Adoption will give you their contact details). If she is still living in Manchester you can also put a posting in the INTOUCH column at the Manchester Evening News which you can do online. Have you also put your request in our Guestbook?

Hi Lisa
thanks for the tips, I did try In Touch in the Manchester paper a couple of years ago, perhaps I will give it another go.
Scottish Laws are different from English on Adoption, the files are still not open!!! Social Services gave me some information but it was very limited, but the funny thing was that I moved to Leeds 20 years ago and when they contacted me to give me the information they said she had moved to Manchester - so she is roughly the same distance away from me as she was when we both lived in Scotland. Thanks for the tips anyway.

Liliano, After Adoption is a Charity and extremely helpful in tracing lost adoptees. Even though you might not want to use their services they can still give you phone numbers of people who can. They do a full tracing service and, if your Local Authority has bought into their service, you can do a tracing with the help of a worker at AA.
