Im looking for my biological father. I was born September 1965 in Crumpsall hospital to Sylvia Housley and put up for adoption. My father was Irish and called Jimmy and lived in Gorton in 1964/65. He met my mum at the Ritz dance hall in Manchester. She was 21 . Small dark hair and brown eyes. Jimmy may have lived on Taylor Street? Anyone knowing an Irish Jimmy from those days please get in touch. I guess he would be in his 60's by now. He was married by 1966 and had another child, I think a son. Thanks for any information. I would love to meet him. Rowena.

Hi Rowena, If you ring After Adoption on 08000 568 578 (freephone) and give them your details they can tell you if you qualify for a worker who will help you do the search. This depends on whether your Local Authority has 'bought in' to their services. They have a Search Room and you can either do it yourself or get the worker to do it for you. The worker can then contact your father for you(discreetly, of course). Was it a private adoption or done through Social Services? If you know the Local Authority that arranged the adoption you can contact them as they may have your details on file. If you dont know your Birth Father's surname you could post a request on the Manchester Evening News' In Touch column. I used to work for AA as a counsellor and they are a great charity. Give them a try.
