Hi everyone, I haven't been on Manmates for many months. Jack reminded me this morning and so I thought I'd check in to see how everyone is doing. How are you Alan? Are any of the old members still on here?

Happy to see this website starting to breathe again. I moved from Boston north by 360 miles. Very close to Canada now. Retired, considered moving back to England but gonna stay here.

Met a young man in Lowes Improvement store the other day..we had long conversation from Fish&Chips to going back to live in UK..he was telling me he and his wife had 5 daughters (result of previous marriages) and with the high costs with health etc they intend to go back in a few years and take advantage of the NHS....he was 39 so he paid in probably 10-1 2 years...he did not say what type of benefits they would receive..I thought that he could stay in the US with a health insurance and would qualify for Medicare(if it is still available) not for me to say anything...people should do as they please..interesting though.Had a friend who returned to UK,Bristol a few years back...enjoyed two years and that was that(Idon,t know what the cause of death was...) So JonesG you made a decision enjoy life to the fullest...enjoy the football on the weekends

I don't know that anyone could take advantage of uk social healthcate, the opposite might occur. There's no comparison to us medical care, whether you have insurance or not. I don't have ins, doesn't stop me.

Hi Jonesg.I left Manchester a few years before you I did work and did my National Service so I did make contributions to the system..about twenty years ago I was informed that if you had contributed at any time it would be beneficial to contact Newcastle to provide all information etc..after a few weeks I received a letter advising me the following...pay the amount stated ( over three years if necessary) and I would receive a "partial" benefit ...I think the total was around $6,000.(six thousand dollars) which I took advantage of the three year payment I was given a new numbered NHS card so should we return to UK we would be "partially" covered for Health (which can be a big item,as you know) Never ever used or applied for a benefit so I have no idea as to what the "partial" benefit would be...(As Nancy Pelosi would say "you have to "use" it to find out)
I hope the afore mentioned may be of some help...if not..it just cost you the time reading the blog
