I am sat here at home waiting for the man from the water company to come and exchange the water meter, turned on the TV and its showing 'Are you Smarter Than a 10 Year Old' the contestant was a guy who works in the financial dept of a large firm and has qualifications in maths, the question was "if it takes John one hour to walk 5 miles how long will it take him to walk 1 mile?" the guy took about four minutes to come up with a answer of "one hour 15 minutes" um yea a little bit wrong there mister, and as stated he works in a financial dept !!.
and in 'The Chase' (ITV ) a contestant was asked "which of the 3 major parties had links to the union movement, Labour, Liberal, or Conservative" the guy who was in his mid 30's and so should have known the answer in a flash, replied "conservative"
two very easy questions but two very wrong answers, who says that as a nation we have not dumbed down over the past 20 years or so? the more we have done by machines/computers etc the less we use our brains and the above is what we come down to,
