Not long now for the Games to begin, but as much as I want to be up for the event I am just currently left totally cold and disenfranchised by the whole event and the heavy handed tactics being used by the organisers, it started with 'Visa' cards only being allowed to be used to buy your tickets, and then the fact that you cannot take in your own food and drink into the grounds became known, will the 'Games' help out many local (UK)companys ?? no they will help out the big mutli nationals like McDonalds,Coca-Cola, Samsung, UPS, Cadburys who are all main sponsors of the event etc, but of course McDonalds, Coca-Cola, UPS, Cadburys are all American owned, Samsung is a Korean company and then there are the major 'sponsor'partners' like BMW another well known British company, oh sorry my mistake BMW are German owned, and there are to be events at places like Old Trafford football ground, which is Man Uniteds ground, they are owned by the Glazer family, a local family from Salford or was it Manchester? well no they too are from America, Malcolm Glazer lives in Palm Beach Florida, a stones throw away from Salford, not??, yes it will be great to see lots of the London 2012 Games income ending up thousands of miles away, it will help us get out of the resession in no time will it not?, but at least as one of the sponsors is the soap powder/cleaning aids company Proctor and Gamble the events stadiums should be left all bright and clean, Proctor's HQ is in some place called Ohio, is that anywhere near Romford? I am aware that places like 'Freds Cafe' could not cope with the numbers so big companies with the know how on how to handle the sheer numbers of food and drink customers had to be given the 'rights' to the event but its a big pity that local firms like Fuller's Brewery (London W4) could not afford to get in the act unlike Heineken, the 2012 Olympics, a showcase for London and the rest of Britain, will be dominated by one beer brand – Heineken lager brewed in the Netherlands makes you proud to be British does it not?. I just hope that lots of the games customers from afar decide to explore the real old London pubs and find some decent english ales and some decent roast beef meals in those pubs, much better than a ruddy Big Mac.

It is unfortunate that everything involves that one thing that we have discussed on Manmates. many times....MONEY...all sports exist as a business..Here in the US Penn State University were fined 60million dollars, lost four years of "bowl games"(13 million) and numerous other penalties. This a university for higher education but "football" is the main business.I read that ManU have had their away "playing kit" redesigned which will generate more money... for the Glazer family!!I could ramble on for hours!!! Remember the song from years ago "Money makes the world go round" and another .."Money is the root of all evil"

as far as the big sponsors go as I stated I am aware that only big companies have the know how on how to feed the xxx thousand people but its the fact that these companies have the sole rights at the expense of others which I am unhappy about, if I was at the games and wanted a pint of bitter it would be John Smiths (rebranded as British Bitter) Smoothflow or John Smiths Smoothflow take it or leave it, now as we are in the EU and they are forever coming out with things like Competion Laws and rules re cartels, and banning abusive behavior by a firm dominating a market can someone tell me how the London Games have got around that?, just how can it be the EU who are forever telling us what we can and cannot do have allowed firms like MacDonalds to have full 100% share of the fast food trade.

Last nights opening of the games was absolutely tremendous...could not have been better!!!!!!
Paul McCartney did a super job of getting everyone together...I thought he was very emotional
at the start of his performance...even though there has been monopolies in food and beer sales
the same sponsors did provide for terrific c TV coverage here in the US....great show!!Not to
forget the royal performance...super job done by Danny Boyle

I dont know which channel you were watching yesterday but it certainly wasnt the same one as me. The BBC have done a superb job with the coverage of the Games and yesterday's Opening of the Games was spectacular and something to be proud of. i think so far BBC coverage is very poor again.

The only thing that spoiled the Opening of the Games for me was the inane and silly Mr. Bean spoiling the superb orchestral piece. I had to switch over with embarrassment......Other than that, it was wonderful and a great masterpiece of workmanship for Danny Boyle and all the volunteers.

Because the big companies like Macdonalds and CocoCola etc. have paid millions into sponsoring the games, they have sole rights to have their food sold at the event. Its only fair that if they have paid big bucks, they must get their returns. I do think it has gone a bit silly though with taking small businesses to Court for as much as putting an Olympic Games poster in their windows without permission. Once again Big Brother is at work instead of the usual common sense that seems to be lacking sometimes in these events.

I agree with Southampton and Jackaitch. Money seems to be going outside the country not inside where it is needed. The longer I live, the longer I realise that MONEY is at the root of most problems. The more money people have, the more they want and the more corrupt they become. Because the big companies like Macdonalds and Coca Cola etc. have paid millions into sponsoring the games, they have sole rights to have their food sold at the event. ) yes agreed but why did the people running the games decide to give 'sole rights' to just a few companies, it has encouraged firms like Coca Cola to be able to charge over the top prices for their goods as there are no other fast food/drinks companies allowed to'open shop' in the sports locations. what if either Coca-Cola or MacDonalds fall down on the job and run out of products at the wrong time? like the security firm G4S ? if there had been at least two security firms working at the games then if (or in this case, when,) one firm c*cked up the other could step into the beech and help sort out the mess, as reported on this thread they ran out of food at Old Trafford on Wed night and this is a ground used to feeding the thousands! giving sole rights to one company really can go wrong.

First let me say I agree with you Lisa except one point...I do believe that Danny Boyle did a wonderful job by incorporating Rowan into the playing of Charriots of fire...it gave a little amusement to music not often listened to these days and...inviting the five hundred construction workers who built the buildings not only thoughtful but genius

I agree Southampton. Why let the big companies rake in all the money from the games......what about the smaller UK companies that could have done the job just as well. I think Macdonalds and CocaCola make enough money. I think a few backhanders influenced their decision to let the bigger companies monopolise the Games. The smaller companies wouldnt have the money to grease a few palms.

Well, the Games are almost at an end and, despite all the doom-and-gloomers, it has been a resounding success. So much for the countries that criticised our achievements and success in getting many medals......even the countries that had been found to be cheating in the past. Team GB was a success because of the hard work and dedication of our wonderful athletes and sportsmen, despite having to get a lot of the funding from overseas. Maybe now Cameron and his pathetic team will stop sending money to tyrranical countries and give the money to the ones that genuinely deserve it.......OUR SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN. Well done to all the other countries that made these Games such a success and well done to London for making it memorable. ;D

Yes Jack, London should be proud of what it achieved despite that idiot Mitt Romney making his asinine comments. My daughter lives in London and its my second home but the only problem was the traffic and tube travel to and from work. She got around it by going later into work and finishing later to avoid the crowds. One time she was stuck in a tube station for over an hour but other than that it ran fairly smoothly. Not an easy task if you knew London. When I was last there I asked a cabbie how they were going to cope with traffic during the Games. His response was just what I expected from an EastEnder. "If London can cope during the war and during 7/7, it can cope with the Games". He was so right. London should be very proud of achieving a very successful Games. Games are over....tremendous success...congratulations to all the athletes...especially the medalist was not too thrilled with the closing show...the sound in Olympic Stadium ..something else!! The Brits did very well....winning so many medals...Rio in four years

Noticed from TV coverage (at least US)...not too many empty seats...of course the Beach Volleyball was the most in demand...everything we were shown was well represented by the crowds...your daughter had it figured out...fortunate to have such a nice position...AND.. there was no big problems with security!!!!
