Hi Babs, Chris, Johnny et al, Babs- your mum sounds like a real little poppet. I wasnt really into idolising pop stars - I loved Elvis and Cliff and liked all the others but didnt go gaga over them. I've never really been a celebrity person. When I used to live in London and my mum came to visit and we went shopping in Harrods my mums eyes were always popping and saying "Guess who I've just seen?" as we passed someone famous but you got used to it when you lived in London. They were just ordinary people trying to earn their living like everyone else. I dont think I've ever asked anyone famous for their autograph BUT I'll have yours of MARTIN SHAW please Babs. I'm going off now for a while to make my face creams. I'll chat to you all later.

Hi everyone, Interested to hear if Lisa knows anything about Marigold face cream. My daughter who lives in Hebden Bridge as been on telephone asking me to log onto BBc Womans Hour site. It was on May 17th. I managed to find it but am trying at the moment to hear the live recording of it. I'M not technical so I am asking my husband to sort it. Apparently you use the whole of the flowerhead of the Marigold. Just thought you might know something about it.
Talking about famous people and posters I had Rock Hudson, Johnnie Mathis and Cliff Richard on my wall when I was younger. My grown up children laugh at me now and think there is something wrong with me, they say everyone you ever swooned over was gay, aren't they awful.!! Anyway when I stayed in London when my daughter Shanthi lived in East Sheen I saw lots of TV and film stars but you never dared to ask for autographs. The only person I was close to as a celebrity was John Thaw. I looked after him and played with him in Gorton, then knew him when he lived in Burnage. When he died I was invited by Sheila Hanc*ck to London to the service in St.Martin-in-the-Fields church. It was packed with celebrities then. They never look like they do on TV do they. Sheila signed her book for me, all about their life together. I met her lovely daughters too. It was a day to remember. They let off 60 silver balloons from Trafalgar Square in his memory. I now have a scrapbook all about John and have all his videos from Morse etc. So you are not too old to have your pin-ups are you, as I am 70 this year.
Just thought I would put my twopennyworth in. Best of luck to everyone. Marie

Hi Marie
Very interesting read . If anybody knows about the face cream Lisa will
John Thaw is my mums pinup and she is 94yrs old,but then again he had a lovely warm personality so I liked him as well,it was a great loss to the acting world when he died,he could play any role.
As far as your children saying you only fancied gays,we didnt know Rock Hudson was gay untill later in life. but he was still handsome wasnt he.

Hi Marie, Yes, I've heard of Marigold Cream. You must use English Marigolds NOT French. You use the flower heads, which are bright orange (not yellow as in French) and pound them in a pestel, then pour hot spring water over them and steep them for several hours. You can then add the liquid oil to the base cream (shea butter). It is then known as Calendula Cream which is very healing. Can be used on sores or burns and is excellent for stings and wounds.

Hi Marie, No, you're never too old to have pin-ups. I'm not really into celebrities because they are human, just like us, with the same fears, dislikes, hates and problems as every one else. BUT, as Babs will testify, I love MARTIN SHAW and watch every episode of Judge John Deed, even the repeats (sad or what?). I've also been a collector of Charles Aznavour's songs for years and missed a chance in Paris to go backstage to meet him, but that another story!!! What a songwriter.....so Marie, you are right. Age has no limits when it comes to having your heart tweaked

Hi Babs and Lisa, thanks for the replies. Have copied your recipe for my daughter, thanks so much. She has been a nursing sister, but now only works on the "bank" as they say doing part time, while husband works abroad a lot. She must be trying to do something with her spare time, if any. But has always been into herbal and alternative medicine.
Thanks once again. Just been looking at some of the old photos on Manmates, it makes you very sad to see some of the old cinemas etc. Remembering how they used to look. I lived at the side of the Catholic Monastery in Brookhouse flats for a time after being born in Bradford. I remember the cart from Sivoris ice cream and the cart with blocks of ice on it - the man used to knock pieces off and give them to us little tots in the street to keep cool on hot days. That was when the sun used to shine all summer and make the pitch bubble on the roadstones.
Cheerio for now and thanks again. marie.

Hi Marie, If your daughter visits Southport Flower Show this weekend she can buy English Marigolds there, she can then buy Organic Shea Butter on www.akamuti.co.uk for the base of her cream OR if you dont want to make your own WELEDA do a Calendula Cream (Calendolon).

Hi Babs, its nice to know you still have your Mum at 94, mine died at 61 and I still miss her, she was more a sister and friend than a Mum. Hope she is keeping well. I bet she remembers a lot about your childhood. I am only sorry I didnt get more info from my Mum and Dad before they passed on because now I am doing a family tree/geneaology chart to pass on to my family I still can't trace whereabouts my great-grandparents lived in Ireland. It is a time consuming job this lark. If I had only taken down notes about our family earlier on it would have been much easier. Same as going on this computer its addictive isn't it. Must go now and do what little I can to prepare the veg.for tea. Cheerio Mariel

Hi Babs, just going off, will pass info onto Debra, re. the shea butter etc. I think we will be going hopefully to Southport weather permitting as my first trip so far for 9 months, I think I deserve being taken for a ride, just hope we can get entrance tickets. Will look into it. I have been to Tatton Park Flower Show last year before by accident and loved it. I bought some bright red crocosmias called Lucifer and they have come up again this year in the garden. They give some colour to an otherwise neglected garden, as I was able to look after it last year. My husband does the lawn and privets and I took care of planting and cultivating the flowers. Do you and Babs like gardening.? Sometimes I think as you are getting long in the tooth like me its better to have pots on a patio, little work and nice to look at. What do you think?

Hi Marie, I would move my bed into the garden in the Summer if I could. Couldnt do much during the hot spell though, as it was really hard-going. I even like being out there in the cold and I've been known to garden in the rain. Weird or what? Watch the Crocosmias as they spread quickly. They die down in winter and as long as you dont dig up the bulbs they will come up year after year. When the clump gets too big, just divide it and plant where you next want them to grow. You will be able to get tickets at the Show. If you leave it to later in the day and on the last day the tickets are much cheaper. Watch out for CLL Landscapes (Nick Boult) as he is my gardener and has a stand at the Show. Hope you enjoy it.

HI JULIE
Chris has gone to Margate to see her son today.
What do you mean don't laugh!Donny Osmond is one of the nicest people in show biz . I once got tickets years ago free off a friend to go and see the Osmond's at the Apollo in Ardwick,my sons didn't want to go they were about 14,12 and 10yrs old at the time, but I made them go with their dad because I wasn't well at the time. Do you know they came back full of it ,they had never enjoyed anything as much they said ,the were all brill ,they were glad they went in the end,Joe said they put on a fantastic show and Donny was the best.
If you see him on tele in interviews he is really a lovely person ,and he keeps his looks even now doesn't he.

Hi MMM60 again, I presume you are a female if you had Elvis on your wall. I remember that photo. Didnt he look gorgeous with his short hair? I think I got a thing for men in uniforms after that. How about posting your photo on MM and your location?
