Can anyone answer this question? I have been for about 225 interviews, jobs I know Im qualified to do but even when the interview seems to go well and I have asked lots of questions and tried to give a good account of myself, at the end of the interview I always get this remark " Are there any questions you would like to ask" I always feels theres a magic formula to that question. Has anyone else had this experience? Needless to say I dont get the jobs. Is there something I should be asking? What do others say?

I do believe that employer,s want to hear that the person being interviewed "wants to work" not just looking for a job...I applied for several jobs ...told...we will call you....then I changed my approach...telling the HR person that I could fit into their organization as I was willing to work...starting at the bottom if required..etc etc....once aboard it,s up to you. Best of Luck my friend!!!!!

it was i lot different in my day, i am an engineer universal grinder) if there was a vacancy for a grinder we phoned up directly , if it was still available , went down to the firm, had the interview got the job or not depending on how it went.

In every job advert there are 'key' words, for example if within the advert it states "experience of working shifts" the key word is shifts, or if the advert states " must be able to work in a team" the key word is 'team' so in the two examples above I would ask lots of questions like "would the shifts be subject to last minute changes" or "if there are different jobs within the 'team' will I be trained up in all these jobs in order to be able to cover for holidays/sickness etc?" make them note that you are aware of just what is important to the job. take a really good look at the way the advert is worded and suss out those very important 'key' words.

I agree with southampton, look for key words, and then at the end say I think you have already answered the other questions in your opening speach, bluff is the answer, make them believe they are right in what they do, a little bit of bull **** never hurt anyone, GOOD LUCK

In a previous life part of my duties were to interview unskilled/semi skilled job applicants. If they had reached the stage of being interviewed they had obviously presented something in their Application form/CV that had pushed them forward to the interview stage. Quite often I knew within a minute or two If I was likely to be employing them. Appearance being a major factor. If somebody had taken the trouble to appear clean and tidy, ( A basic requisite for a job interview surely)? Also, If they had taken a bit of time to find out something about the company, and what we did, and appeared to be keen. Then they were nearly home and dry.
I might add that after I was made redundant I applied for and didn't get many jobs that I was more than capable of doing. I had a good CV, I dressed smartly, I asked a lot of the right questions, yet still didn't get the job. I suspect in some cases I was over confident and it came through as me being a smart Alec. The point is, don't despair or give up, jobs are a lot scarcer to come by nowadays than they were in my day, but as they say"Who dares wins" Good luck.
