Hi All,
Another "Ace Cafe" reunion has gone by, once again held at Brighton and a glorious weekend it was too. It really is great for Brighton to be the centre of attention for a bikers do in a nice way, gone are the days of Mods & Rocker punch ups of the 60's.
Next month it's Skegness Bikers Extravaganza at Butlins.

Thank you All,
The saga of the knee goes on I'm afraid, I still have no prosthesis in place but I am fairly mobile and can do most of what I want provided I'm not too ambitious, no hiking no jogging and no standing for long periods. I'm not due to see the surgeon until November so I don't think that there will be any activity until the New Year which suits me fine as it will be the longest period for five years now that I will have been free of surgical intervention. It will give me some time to build muscle which is sadly depleted. It may not sound ideal but I am enjoying life and that has to be a lot to do with all the prayers and kind thoughts. Thank you All.

June, I have a distant memory of the Molly Dancers but cant remember much, just the name. I remember on May Day (my birthday as it happens) we all got dressed up as a May Queen, a bride, a groom (very reluctantly), a sweep, maidens, a tramp etc. Can anyone remember anything else we dressed up as? The best time was Whit Sunday wearing all new clothes and getting loads of pennies to spend of Soir de Paris or California Poppy....gosh we must have stunk to high heaven.

Liza/June I remember all of those things the pennies being thrown when th Pub had an outing. Molly dancers I was never allowed to be one but we always had a may queen lots of competition with the next street, costumes made out of crepe paper that's how I learnt to use the sewing machine. One year May 1st, Manchester United were playing in the cup final we dressed up in red skirts/shorts white tops with sashes with the words Manchester United on them, we went round the houses about 3pm the match had started. Anyone remember Around this merry maypole and through the live long day for gentle Mary Jane we crown the queen of may with hearts and voices singing we verily name the day for gentle Mary Jane we crown the queen of may we crown her we crown her we crown her the queen of may

I remember the Molly Dancer thing, I have an inkling it was something related to Morris Dancing but I can't remember when we did it or why. Maypoles were too cissy for me, I had very little female contact in my younger days, scallywag that I was I had firm opinions on what was cissy and what was butch.

That's nowt. I emptied 14 Bangers into a pile & lit it with a piece of newspaper. They didn't ignite so I pushed it nearer the pile of gunpowder and guess what.....FLASH, WHOOSH & every finger on my right hand burnt like a sausage.
Of course I got loads of sympathy of my mum. "You poor darling "she said or perhaps I misheard & it was more like "You stupid devil" followed by a crack round the ear'ole then a trip to MOKRYZ the chemist on Wilmslow Rd. for rapid anti-burn treatment.
When I think of the things myself & others in our gang did in the run-up and on bonfire night I shudder & wonder how I/we survived. The "Todd's" from Walmer St. were our arch enemies @ when I think of the weapons we devised to do battle with to defend our bonty wood makes me shudder.I'll describe them in detail if anybody is interested.

Anyone remember Syrup of Figs to work a good road through you, and Virol, Malt extract, I was the youngest of five and last in line so got to lick the sspoon, mind you it was no joke on bath night as I was last one in the zinc bath in front of the fire, the water was like mud. Making paper chains at christmas cos we couldn't afford decorations, all tied to the gas mantle stem hanging from the centre ceiling, last years flypaper still there as there was still a bit of room left for more flies, the dim yellow hissing light making everything eerie. Gathered around the wireless, recently filled accummulater awaiting Journey into Space, avoiding the draughts created by mother burning the interior doors when we couldn't buy coal. On windy nights the candle flame flickered and danced, I never slept well especially when Lemmy got locked into the air-lock of the spacecraft, our kid went to the outside toilet and i followed him in fear, stood trembling in the backyard.

Hi Codger, I remember Virol.....we were all dosed once a week with cod liver oil and orange juice. My mum told me that when I was a baby and woke up during the night, she would just reach out in the dark for my dummy, dip it in the Virol and stick the dummy in my mouth - peace at last......until she looked at me in the morning......my mouth, nose, eyes and hair were all covered in the stuff and my nose and eyes were stuck together. Such cruelty!!!

I actually used to like the malt extract and the orange juice, cod liver oil wasn't too bad either. I have no doubt that I had it but the only thing I remember about National Dried Milk was the empty tin that my Man used for keeping buttons in.
