LISA, YOU ARE RIGHT...I KNOW I MAY SOUND LIKE A HYPOCRITE BECAUSE I SMOKE, BUT I ALWAYS TELL YOUNG PEOPLE HOW FOOLISH IT IS, AND NOT TO BE AS STUPID AS I WAS...THE THING IS I CAN ONLY BLAME MYSELF FOR SMOKING, THERE WAS NO PEER PRESSURE, NONE OF MY FRIENDS SMOKED, I JUST WENT INTO A SHOP ONE DAY AND BOUGHT A PKT, AND THAT WAS THE WORSE MOVE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE...I GUESS THERE ARE THOSE WHO DO THINGS BECAUSE OF PEER PRESSURE BUT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THAT, MAYBE BECAUSE I AM INDEPENDANT AND I ONLY DO WHAT I WANT TO DO...I CAN REMEMBER WHEN I WAS 16, I WAS OFFERED THE DRUG PURPLE HEART, THEY KEPT ON AND ON ABOUT ME TRYING IT BUT I NEVER WOULD, AND YET IF I REMEMBER RIGHTLY NOT MUCH WAS KNOWN ABOUT DRUGS AS WE KNOW TODAY...BUT I WOULDN'T BOW TO PEER PRESSURE, AND THANK GOD I DIDN'T.

Hi Lin, I remember Purple Hearts - they seemed like the only drugs on the market in those days but I expect they weren't. In the 60's in London, most people smoked cannabis and dabbled in LSD etc. but I never got sucked into it. I remember once on the island of Sark waking up to find a party in full swing and joining them in my nighty. A spliff was passed around, and I gave it a try, not wanting to look like a killjoy, expecting fireworks but nothing happened so I never tried it again. What a disappointment......I'd rather have a G&T

I'VE BEEN TO SARK NO I NEVER TRIED ANYTHING LIKE THAT...HOWEVER I DO AGREE THAT A G&T IS MORE MY KIND OF THING LIN

Hi Lin, What did you think of Sark? Its a little piece of heaven to me. I stayed with a friend who had built his own house on the edge of the cliffs with his own path to the sea below. We hired bikes for the week and rode to the edge of the cliffs at sundown to watch the most spectacular sunsets. All the islanders greeted you in the mornings, we had fresh milk and eggs from the farm, and there were no blaring radios. HEAVEN !! It was a holiday before a holiday when I went to Denmark, Finland and Sweden after Sark. I always vowed I'd go back. There's a wonderful hotel on Little Sark called La Sablonnerie where they grow all their own organic produce and rear (and kill) all their meat. Its the kind of holiday where you can truly 'chill out' . Highly recommended.

Hi Lin, Yes, Sark has no traffic apart from tractors, bikes and horses - just my type of place. Nothing to do at all......but its heaven on earth. Once a week they had a dance at the local pub and EVERYONE turned up, young and old and it was wonderful watching 80 year olds dancing with teenagers. I loved it but I was only there for one week before going off to Scandinavia for another holiday. Not everyone's cup of tea, but great for a bit of peace and quiet and the bird watching was marvelous. I found a deserted beach which I got to by climbing down the cliffs and I thought NO-ONE could see me, so I sunbathed with nothing on. There I was soaking up the sun when I heard cheering and sat up to see these blokes on a speedboat all waving frantically at my embarrassment while I cupped by breasts with my hands IT'S VERY NICE, BUT NOTHING MUCH THERE REALLY...AM I REMEMBERING RIGHTLY? IS IT SARK THAT THERE ARE NO CARS ON THE ISLAND? LIN

OH MY GOD LISA...LOL! I WOULD HAVE DIED...LOL! YES IT IS A NICE PLACE THERE, BUT TOO QUIET FOR ME, I NEED TO BE ABLE TO GO OUT AND DO THINGS DAILY, LIKE SEEING THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF DIFFERENT PLACES...LIKE WHEN WE GO AWAY, I'M NOT ONE FOR LAZING ON A BEACH FOR A FORTNIGHT..I'M THE SAME AT HOME THOUGH, I HAVE TO KEEP ON THE GO ALL THE TIME...LOL! Hi Belinda it is now nearly 12months since my fella stopped smoking but he said the same he thought he would feel a little better than he does now. The doctor said to him just think how bad you would feel if you haven't given up. He went to the no smoking clinic at the doctors and got the patches and he found they worked okay for him . I made sure that when I put a patch on for him I also covered it up with some plaster so it didn't fall off therefore he had the full benefit of it. I was amazed he had been smoking all his life 40 years and yet been able to give them up. Keep trying if not for your healths sake then think of the money you will save

Well there is another side to us non smokers ,People say things like "" are you still going to those keep FAT class'es " or "are you tryin to get rid if that anorexic waist line of yours" I'm seriously thinkin of buyin a Tee-shirt with the words "I Beat Anorexia" on it and I'm only 15 and a half stone. One more thing is I checked my lungs at the doctors the other week and they told me that they were 84 years old , The damage is done they wont get any better , so the younger you are when you quit the better your chances areof livin longer

A good website for people trying to give up smoking is www.ash.org.uk for tips and advice. Remember the public ban starts on July 1st this year, so it may be the incentive you need to start to stop. Good luck.
