hello lisa, well here we are covered in smoke. we have had no rain for ages ,and the bush is going up in flames, they said on the radio the other day that 1 million hectares have been burnt. i well remember the weather you are having. back in 1958 about this time i was working in cheetham hill it was freezing, and the sun looked like a dirty orange ball , really eerie sort of a day, then the news came through that united ,s plane had crashed, all the papers had a black border around them. hard to believe that was nearly 50 years ago, sorry i started this , stirring some very sad memories. regards, frank walsh.

Hi Frank, It must be awful to see the grass and trees destroyed by fire - what a contrast to England ! Where abouts in Cheetham Hill did you live? I used to work on Cheetham Hill Road on the corner of Derby Street for a Jewish family. The company was called Aqua-Mer Weatherwear (Harries Limited) and I worked there for three years as Secretary.

hello lisa, i lived all my life in harpurhey worked in a butchers in progress buildings cheetham hill rd, just over waterloo rd, my grandma lived in bent st, off elizabeth st,i know the area where you woked really well, went to school at st chads for a little while, my mother worked at kennings garage. would have been very surprised if you had worked for anybody but jews in those days around cheetham. regards frank walsh.

I've just had word regards Marie. She has been ill but is now a little better. She has been without a pc for a while but now has a new one and she will be in touch soon. Meanwhile she wishes everyone at MM very best wishes. I am sure if she were on here she would have wished Kath a Happy Birthday too so I am wishing it to Kath on Marie's behalf.

Seems that on my Birthday this year we will see a total eclipse of the moon (you couldn't BUY a gift like that eh?).
Also, on my tenth Birthday (in 1966) the BBC announced plans to begin broadcasting in colour, on BBC2. This would make Britain the first country in Europe to do so. (Another great Birthday present!).

thanks to all for your birthday wishes i have never had so many ;D i did work a late shift but when i came home i had a few beers  Ali bought me a pile of beers to try i have never heard of Fullers London porter, Innnisand Gunn, Fuller esb, Bellihaven Wee heavy, Hobgoblin, London pride,Old speckled hen, Tetley English ale and of coarse GUINNESS. i am a little hung over this morning from trying a few i think it must be because i mixed them but they where good going down thanks again for you wishes tommy (for the girls ) (for the guys ) |
